A Baltimora i vescovi attaccano i candidati che difendono orrori come l’aborto o la clonazione, ma anche il matrimonio tra persone dello stesso sesso e la sperimentazione embrionale (Bishops issue guidelines for Catholic voters, Los Angeles Times, 11/15/2007; per fortuna aggiungono anche, tra i mali da combattere, razzismo, genocidio e tortura, threats to the sanctity and dignity of human life). Non solo: attaccano chi li vota, colpevoli di complicità nei mali terribili sopraelencati.Niente di nuovo per noi, abituati come siamo ai sermoni e alle minacce delle gerarchi ecclesiastiche indigene.
Ma è interessante quanto ha dichiarato sulla vicenda Nicholas DiMarzio di Brooklyn, N.Y. (il corsivo è mio):
It is not a voter guide [...] It calls us as bishops to help form consciences for political life, not tell people how to vote or whom to vote for or against.E aggiunge Samuel J. Aquila di Fargo, N.D.:
